How we Work

F-SKILL continualy creates and updates curriculums and training courses, following labour market needs. F-SKILL has provided training services in over 45 occupations throughout Nepal.

Step 1

Program design

  • Program Design

F-SKILL works with the donor/partner to design a training program appropriate for the desired beneficiaries.

  • Participant Selection

Depending on the project, beneficiaries are either pre-selected by the donor agency/project or a selection is made by F-SKILL, targeting the most disadvantaged groups, through a differential pricing approach.

Step 2

Market assessment

  • Rapid Market Assessment

RMA is conducted in local markets in close proximity to the targeted beneficiaries to access occupations in demand and the corresponding labour shortage.

  • Curriculum Design

Existing curriculums are updated and/or new curriculums are designed, as per the occupations identified in the RMA. Curriculums are created based on the minimum standards of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). As per need, instructors are hired and provided Training of Trainer (ToT) Courses.

  • Career Counselling

Participants are provided counseling sessions on choosing a training course. Based on occupations identified in the RMA, the participants are provided orientation on the different aspects of the occupation and training course.

Step 3

Training

  • Training Preparation

Training venue, schedule, administrative and logistical arrangements are made in a location near the majority of the participants. Training equipment and other required materials are procured.

  • Technical Skill Training

Technical skill training is provided to participants based on the curriculum. Typically 20% of training time is allocated for theory and 80% for practical. Duration of training ranges from one month to two-and-a-half months. Training program is implemented directly by F-SKILL or its franchisees, depending on location and logistical requirements. A training completion report is created for every training event. All training’s are monitored by F-SKILL field monitors.

  • Soft Skill Training

In addition to skill training, participants are provided group counseling sessions on business skills, reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, legal aid information, life skills and psychosocial counseling. For potential overseas migrants, counseling sessions are provided on worker rights, family management and coping with personal, social and economical challenges while working abroad.

  • Skill Test

After training completion, participants undergo a skill test orgainzed through the National Skill Testing Board (NSTB). A skill test certificate ensures the training courses find recognition in the labour market, and it helps the participants professional advancement and enrollment in higher level training opportunities.

Step 4

Employment

  • Linkage with Employers

After successful completion of training, trainees are linked to local employers.

  • Business Support

Business support is provided to trainees who opt for self-employment by starting their own income generating activity or micro enterprise. The trainees are provided start-up tool kit and counseling on developing business plans, assessing markets, attracting customers, managing expenses and incomes, and related skills. Trainees in need of start-up capital and credit are linked to local financial institutions.

  • Income Verification

F-SKILL applies the impact financing modality whereby F-SKILL pays its partners or franchisees the full amount only after the trainees are working and earning a minimum income per month. Typically, income of the trainees are monitored 3 months and 6 months after training.
